Disney Princess Dress Up Costumes

At some time in their life, every girl will want to wear a gorgeous Disney princess dress up costume. What little girl doesn't love to watch the Disney films about their favourite characters Cinderella, Belle, Princess Aurora and Snow White. Dressing up in a Disney princess costume is a rite of passage. Children are excited and enchanted with pretend. Having them wear the outfit of a princess helps them feel that much closer to being a princess.

Disney princess costumes are a fabulous gift for birthday's or to dress up your little girl for a fancy dress party. Dressing up is a wonderful activity for little girls, especially as a princess.

There are many different princesses now. Disney princess costumes can be anywhere from Mermaids to Tinkerbells. You have Disney Fairy costumes such as Tinkerbell too. Disney has added quite a bit of diversity to their princesses. Gone are the days of blue eyed blond haired princesses. Your child will not feel like they aren't quite right for the part because they have dark hair. There are plenty of dark haired princesses now.

If your child just likes to play dress up around the house then there are Disney Princess accessories available to which includes the Disney Princess Wig.

Let's not forget that boys too love fancy dress and playing their favourite character from the Disney films. Dress up costumes for boys are now readily available including characters like Buzz Lightyear, Batman, Spiderman, Harry Potter and Power Rangers. These costumes are great presents or fantastic costumes for World Book Day and fancy dress birthday parties.

Little Nut Tree Toys has now partnered up with Rubies to stock the Original Disney Dress Up Costumes. Visit us now to find out more http://littlenuttreetoys.co.uk

Lets Be Creative!

We have a fab play idea for you this week and it will be a great way to keep the kids entertained on rainy days when they are off school.
So lets be creative and make a book! It’s a fun activity to help kids learn story-telling and encourage their imagination.

We're fairly sure that most homes have spare photos of when their kids were babies, growing up, when you were on holiday or just plain scenery shots. Gather up all those spare photos that you can cope with being cut up and keep them in a box for activities just like this.
You Will Need: photos, paper, scissors, glue, paint, pens, crayons, crafty bits (wool, leaves, flowers, grass, ribbon, buttons etc), old magazines If you are using scissors in this activity, please make sure they are safe scissors or else do the cutting as directed by your kid.

What to do:

- Take your paper and fold it in half (don't make too many pages or your child may get bored of the activity and not finish)

- Help your child choose a story eg 'Daisy's day at the beach. The story might start with Daisy collecting everything she needs to go to the beach, so find pictures of buckets, spades, swimsuits etc. How she got to the beach (was it in the car or on a train); what she did at the beach, the journey home and then maybe you could finish with bedtime.

- Choose the pictures from the photo box (and old magazines) that you want to use (once a theme has been chosen it will be easier to build up a story)

- You can add lots of bits and bobs to the scenery: sand for the beach, tin foil for the sea etc.

- Once you have finished the story, cut a length of string or wool and tie it around the middle of the book to hold it together.

- Present the finished story book to your child you could read it together at bedtime.

We had loads of fun doing this and hope that you will too, let us know how you get on and we would love to see pictures of their finished creations.

Cake Time!

For this week's play idea we were going to suggest some indoor fun in the kitchen to keep the kids entertained as the weather has been pretty miserable this week but then the sun came out (in Wilsmlow) so we got all excited but now it seems to be hiding again so we are going to stick with the cooking idea :).

Anyway there are two ways you can approach this activity:

1) select a fairly straight forward recipe like the 'Rock cakes' recipe shown below, or
2) buy a cookie or brownie mix from your supermarket. This option is quite cheap (generally around a pound if you buy their own brand) and they're brilliant to have in your cupboard for rainy days (and are a lot less messy)

Whichever option you go for, children love to be involved in the cooking especially if they can get messy, and as long as there is always an adult supervising them, they will have a fantastic time and you will get a yummy treat at the end.

For the Rock cake recipe you will need:

  • 3oz butter

  • 8oz self rising flour

  • 1 level tsp lemon essence (squirt of lemon will do)

  • 4oz currants (or raisins)

  • 3ox sugar

  • 1 egg

  • 2 tbsp milk

Utensils: mixing bowl, jug, fork/whisk, wooden spoon, teaspoon. table spoon, and of course a baking tray.

Instructions:

  • preheat the oven to 220 degrees C (adults only)

  • put the flour and the butter into the mixing bowl and rub together. This is when the kids start to get messy.

  • mix in the sugar

  • Beat the egg thoroughly and add both the egg and milk to the mixing bowl (mixture must be fairly stiff)

  • Get the kids to mix in the dried fruit

  • Grease your baking tray.

  • Drop mounds of mixture using a tablespoon onto the baking tray

Bake for 15 minutes and, drum roll please, you have your rock cakes! The kids will be very proud of themselves and you can enjoy the cakes with a lovely cup of tea (or wine).

Let us know how you get on baking your cakes or brownies, and if you have any simple recipes that are great for getting the kids involved we would love to hear them

Have fun!
